I don’t have good words for describing the wedding right now except to say it was exactly as it should be. There were no hitches and glitches of any magnitude and the wee ones that occurred fell away easily against the bounty of love flowing between the bride and groom and those who love them.
(I had a weird little thing for each of my kids when I would describe how they and I each fit together. I would say, "Samantha is my heart, Jeremy is my soul, and Kevin is my hope." Those who knew all of us as they grew to adulthood would simply give a knowing nod of agreement. There are stories of why for each connection, but not for now. Jeremy is the one who wed on Saturday. I could not have picked a more appropriate mate for him.)
Two songs define the entirety of the process for me. From the birth of my older son to the day he wed. Stunningly apt choices for both songs.
Below are the lyrics to their first-dance-as-married song:
Keith Urban’s
"Making Memories Of Us"
I’m gonna be here for you baby
I’ll be a man of my word
Speak the language in a voice that you have never heard
I wanna sleep with you forever
And I wanna die in your arms
In a cabin by a meadow where the wild bees swarm
And I’m gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I’ll earn your trust making memories of us
I wanna honor your mother
I wanna learn from your pa
I wanna steal your attention like a bad outlaw
I wanna stand out in a crowd for you
A man among men
I wanna make your world better than it’s ever been
And I’m gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I’ll earn your trust making memories of us
We’ll follow the rainbow
Wherever the four winds blow
And there’ll be a new day
Comin’ your way
I’m gonna be here for you from now on
This you know somehow
You’ve been stretched to the limits but it’s alright now
And I’m gonna make you a promise
If there’s life after this
I’m gonna be there to meet you with a warm, wet kiss
And I’m gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I’ll earn your trust making memories of us
I’m gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I’ll win your trust making memories of us
And the lyrics to the song Jeremy picked for the mother-son dance:
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Simple Man lyrics
Songwriters: Van Zant, Ron; Rossington, Gary;
Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it’ll help you some sunny day
Oh, take your time don’t live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
Go find a woman you’ll find love
And don’t forget son there is someone up above
And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won’t you do this for me son if you can?
Forget your lust for the rich man’s gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied
And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won’t you do this for me son if you can? Oh yes, I will
Boy, don’t you worry you’ll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied
And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won’t you do this for me son if you can?
Baby be a simple, be a simple man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
So you see, yes? How the weaving works? I knew you would.
