Some things have been changed or eliminated in the blog meme. Computers and cell phones were in the original exercise and no-one had a home computer and cell phones didn’t exist when I was a kid/college age. But for fairness sake,

This is different in a lot of ways from the one i did..so I’m doing this version here. 🙂 I’d say solidly middle class, but then again, that’s not what our income bracket said, just how we were raised.
When you were in college:
If your father went to college, take a step forward. Nope
If your father finished college nope
If your mother went to college yup
If your mother finished college yup
If you have any relative who is an attorney, physician, or professor. nope
If you were the same or higher class than your high school teachers yup
If you had a computer at home (in college yes, but only the second time when I was in my late 20’s)
If you had your own computer at home nope
If you had more than 50 books at home, yup
If you had more than 500 books at home, yup
If were read children’s books by a parent yup
If you ever had lessons of any kind yup
If you had more than two kinds of lessons nope
If the people in the media who dress and talk like me are portrayed positively (dunno, i’m a middle class polyamorous witch..probably not)
If you had a credit card with your name on it (in college, yes)
If you have less than $5000 in student loans yes
If you have no student loans nope
If you went to a private high school nope
If you went to summer camp nope
If you had a private tutor yes, when i was homeschooled for a year in high school, but i don’t think that counts, I was in a group home.
If you have been to Europe nope
If your family vacations involved staying at hotels yup
If all of your clothing has been new and bought at the mall nope
If your parents bought you a car that was not a hand-me-down from them
(does borrowing the down payment from my dad count?)
If there was original art in your house Nope
If you had a phone in your room yup
If you lived in a single family house- most of the time
If your parent own their own house or apartment (yes, most of the time)
If you had your own room (yup)
If you participated in an SAT/ACT prep course (nope-I did however sleep through half the SAT and scored an 1110)
If you had your own cell phone in High School (nope-but they didn’t exist yet)
If you had your own TV in your room in High School (nope, but I had one in elementary and middle school)
If you opened a mutual fund or IRA in High School or College (yup, but only after i was in my late 20’s and back in college the second time)
If you have ever flown anywhere on a commercial airline – yup
If you ever went on a cruise with your family nope
If your parents took you to museums and art galleries nope
If you were unaware of how much heating bills were for your family. yup
All in all, I’d still say solidly middle class…
I still am solidly privileged, too, with this version – though no computer or cell phone don’t even count. As to your answer to this one:
If the people in the media who dress and talk like me are portrayed positively (dunno, i’m a middle class polyamorous witch..probably not)
Were you a polyamorous witch right out of high school? This was designed for freshman in college and you are supposed to answer for that time in your life. :P~
Silly question but what exactly does this mean?
if you were the same or higher class than your high school teachers
Perhaps if I have no clue it wasn’t important and we were all on a similar playing field?
If you put people into lower, middle and upper class – were you in the same class or a higher class than your teachers? If they were middle class were you middle or upper? Yes = bold. If you were lower class, No = no bold.
Sorry if I over-explained it.
Nah you didn’t over explain it. I just couldn’t fathom it for the life of me. I guess that put us all in the same class if I have no clue. I came from a solid middle to upper-middle class area and the teachers were from surrounding areas. So I guess we were all from the same class.
Oy that was taking the long way around for an answer! LOL
